Art Therapy can be used to relieve stress, mental anguish and transmute our emotional state. We can, through AT exercises, clarify desires, help formulate ideas and come to resolutions in decision making. It can be relaxing and fun, creatively productive or profoundly enlightening.
This modality uses a wide variety of mediums, for two dimensional work; watercolor, pen, colored pencils, marking pens, acrylic paints and chalk pastels. Depending on the need of the person, a certificated art therapist such as myself would choose from exercises designed to address their specific problem and would be able to recommend which medium would best lend itself to the art work.
Clay, being a manipulated medium, helps create a three dimensional therapeutic piece.
Sessions, either done with an individual or a group, can be a one-time, single class experience or an on-going therapy. As a series, the client would be guided through exercises in a progressive manner, according to the desired outcome.
I started using Art Therapy for my own mental health when I had direct experience of how painting was changing my brain and my emotional state. Not truly believing what I felt, I did some research and study which confirmed my realization of the healing power of being creative. I offer classes to others to afford them the same beneficial experience. Contact Kathi to plan your Art Therapy.
